Freezing rain on Big Island summits

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Big Island summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

Persistent rainfall along the windward coast and slopes of the Big Island is allowing isolated showers to reach the summits where temperatures are well below freezing, the National Weather Service said.

Freezing rain could continue until mid morning tomorrow but the advisory is expected to last only until 10 a.m. today.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Travelers should be prepared for slippery roads, limited visibility and use caution while driving.
