Living up to the name of a famous basketball family, Maryknoll High School senior Kristen Canencia placed her own name in the history books by being selected as Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II Most Valuable Player after a vote of league coaches.
Canencia, a 5-foot-1 guard, helped the Spartans go 12-0 and win the ILH DII title.
Her father, Randy, was a two-time ILH Player of the Year and All-State guard at University High in the 1980s.
Canencia is joined on the ILH DII all-star first team by fellow Spartan Ashley Agcaoili (a sophomore), Hawai'i Baptist senior Narissa Fujii, Kamehameha senior Kendall Moi-Simeona, St. Andrew's Priory senior Minna Watanabe and University High junior Angie Yoshizu.
Maryknoll's Bobby Samson was named Coach of the Year.
