BLANTYRE, Malawi — Madonna wants to adopt a Malawian girl, a welfare official and another person close to the case said yesterday, offering more detail on the second child the star is seeking from the impoverished African country.
The two, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, said the girl is about 4 years old and her unmarried teen mother died soon after she was born. Her father is believed to be alive but no other details were available.
The girl's relatives at first resisted the adoption but have now consented, the sources said. They said her uncle will appear before a judge in the capital Lilongwe on Monday to sign papers.
Madonna is expected to arrive in Lilongwe this weekend. The luxury lodge she normally stays in has been booked and other visitors are being turned away.
OSBOURNES RELOADED FOR VARIETY SHOW
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — The Osbourne family has a six-episode shot at remaking the TV variety show in its image.
"Osbournes Reloaded," which brings Sharon Osbourne, her heavy-metal husband Ozzy and offspring Kelly and Jack back together on TV, debuts on Fox in a cushy Tuesday slot after "American Idol."
"We can do this differently because, firstly, we're a family," Sharon Osbourne says. "Secondly, we're a family that's a little bit irreverent and edgy. That kind of makes it more spontaneous ... because you never know what any of us is going to do."
The show includes bleeped expletives and raunchy humor, in a format of comedy sketches, pranks on unsuspecting studio audience members and music.
ANOTHER 'DANCING' CELEBRITY INJURED
NEW YORK — Holly Madison is in a world of hurt on "Dancing With the Stars."
Her publicist says the reality star began feeling pain in her rib area last week while rehearsing the samba for the ABC dance competition.
Madison was prescribed medication on Thursday, her publicist says, and expects to dance on Monday's show.
A star of the E! show "The Girls Next Door" and a four-time Playboy cover model, Madison replaced Jewel at the last minute after the singer fractured both legs in pre-show training.
T.I. GETS YEAR IN PRISON FOR MACHINE GUNS
ATLANTA — Rapper T.I. was sentenced yesterday to one year and a day in prison after pleading guilty to trying to buy a stash of machine guns and silencers to protect himself after his best friend was killed.
The 28-year-old, whose real name is Clifford Harris, will also pay a $100,000 fine. He pleaded guilty last March but wasn't sentenced until yesterday as part of a deal in which he did community service by speaking to youths about the pitfalls of drugs, violence and guns.
"Today, I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all," the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., who handed down the sentence.
