Bringing some basketball pride back to the Leeward Coast, Wai'anae swept top postseason honors for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference Western Division after a recent vote of league coaches.
Christian Mendonza, a 5-foot-10 junior forward, was named Player of the Year. The Seariders' John Simbahon was Coach of the Year.
Mendonza showed all-around scoring ability, notching 25 points, including four 3-pointers, in a victory over Leeward Coast rival Nanakuli and 21 points in a win over Pearl City.
He is joined on the OIA White West all-star first team by fellow Searider Danny Kekoanui, Pearl City's Johnson Chao and Mitchell Ressurection, and Waialua's Vance Maluyo.
Kekoanui is a 5-10 senior guard, Chao a 5-9 junior guard, Ressurection a 5-6 junior guard and Maluyo a 6-foot junior forward.
Kekoanui was another steady scorer for Wai'anae, notching 15 points vs. Waialua, 16 against Kalani and 18 vs. Anuenue in a three-game stretch.
Maluyo also could fill it up, scoring 26 in a loss to Wai'anae.
Chao and Ressurection steadied the Chargers backcourt as Pearl City finished second in the West.
Simbahon was named Coach of the Year after guided the Seariders to a 7-4 record and first place in the regular season.
