CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seth Curry has found his new basketball home and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has found a future scorer.
After spending several hours Sunday with Krzyzewski on the Duke campus, Curry — the nation's leading freshman scorer (20.3 points per game) this season at Liberty University — committed to play for the Blue Devils.
Under NCAA rules, Curry will not be allowed to participate next season but can begin play in the 2010-11 season.
"After spending five hours with coach K and his staff and hearing how highly they regard (Seth) and how they think he can help their program, it speaks for itself," father Dell Curry said Sunday evening.
"It seems like the right fit. Seth committed before he left."
Curry, the younger brother of Davidson's Stephen Curry, asked for and was granted his release from Liberty to pursue what he called "opportunities at higher-rated conferences."
Curry's father said after Liberty had granted his son's release, the school was contacted by Duke officials about meeting with the 6-foot-3 Charlotte Christian graduate.
"They did everything right by the book," said Dell Curry, a former Virginia Tech and Charlotte Hornets star. "When (Duke) requested to talk with Seth, they jumped to the top of the list."
Curry said his son had planned to visit other schools until he met with Krzyzewski and his staff Sunday.
"Coach K really wanted Seth," Dell Curry said. "His vision for Seth and for the program, it was great as parents to hear someone of his stature sell us on how bad he wanted Seth."
Krzyzewski is not allowed to comment on Curry until he signs with the school.
With Seth's future determined, there is still a question about whether his older brother will return to Davidson for his senior season or turn professional.
Dell Curry said he and his wife, Sonya, talked with Stephen Friday and Saturday about his decision but nothing has been finalized.
