Free financial literacy fair set for April 8 at Tamarind Park

Consumers can get advice on being money-savvy at a free Financial Literacy Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 8 at Tamarind Park in downtown Honolulu.
As part of Financial Literacy Month in April, the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is hosting the lunchtime event. Commissioner of Securities Tung Chan organized the fair to provide financial education information, services and programs to the public.
"Financial education is an important part of everyday life and even more so in these difficult economic times," Chan said.
"Whether it relates to managing income, consumer spending, buying a home, retirement savings, investments or taxes, we want consumers to be armed with accurate and useful information," she said.
Exhibitors will offer free financial literacy information to the general public. In addition to the Commissioner of Securities' Investor Education program, volunteers will include: State Commerce and Consumer Affairs educational programs; Better Business Bureau; Executive Office of Aging; Hawai'i Community Lending; Hawai'i State Public Library System; HI529 Hawai'i's College Savings Program; Social Security Administration; University of Hawai'i at Manoa Cooperative Extension Office; Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Hawai'i;Hawai'i Home Ownership Center; U. S. Post Office; AARP - Hawai'i; the Honolulu Police Department; and the FBI.
