A woman charged with attempted murder in the first degree for allegedly running over the foot and ankle of a Honolulu police officer last week had earlier been chasing down her boyfriend in a Chevy pickup truck, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Norina O. Rzonca, 33, made her initial appearance in District Court today. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Around 8:20 Friday morning, Rzonca was arguing with her boyfriend, Jeffrey Ceno, at Rzonca's home on Pukui Place in Waianae, according to the affidavit. Ceno left the home and began walking down Lualualei Homestead Road.

As Ceno approached Ihuku Street, according to the affidavit, he could hear Rzonca's pickup truck coming at him from behind "at a high rate of speed and heading directly toward him."

The truck came within 8 to 10 feet of Ceno, who had to jump onto a wall to avoid being hit, according to the affidavit.

"Ceno feared for his life and believes that Rzonca was intentionally trying to run him down and would have succeeded had he not jump(ed) out of the way and onto the wall," according to the affidavit.

Ceno then saw a Honolulu police cruiser and flagged down Officer Ming Wang, who used his car's loudspeaker to tell Rzonca to stop and pull over, according to the affidavit.

As Rzonca made a U-turn, Wang got out of his car but Rzonca ignored his directions to stop, according to the affidavit.

Rzonca's truck "appeared to be picking up speed as it came directly toward him and before he could get out of the way the driver's-side front wheel of Rzonca's vehicle was on top of his left leg area, causing extreme pain to the area around his ankle," according to the affidavit. "That upon realizing that he was being run over and fearing for his life, Officer Wang drew his issued pistol as he as falling backward and fired one round toward the direction of ... Rzonca."

As Wang lay on the ground in the middle of the road, Rzonca sped away north-bound on Lualualei Homestead Road, according to the affidavit.

Wang was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was treated for abrasions and bruises from his left ankle to his left thigh.

The blue pickup truck with primer spots on its hood was spotted less than an hour later in front of Rzonca's home. But around the same time, according to the affidavit, Rzonca walked into the Waianae Police Station and said she was the person who ran over the officer with her truck.
