Public meetings on energy planning to wind up May 13
LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A series of community meetings to help shape Kaua'i's energy future concludes May 13 in Lihu'e.
The Kaua'i Energy Sustainability Plan community meetings will discuss energy prices, clean energy development, oil independence, economic diversification, green jobs, and other local issues.
The meetings are part of a year-long effort to develop goals and guidelines for Kaua'i energy usage over the next 20 years. The impetus for the plan stems from the island's dependency on foreign oil, despite the availability of untapped local, renewable energy resources.
Consultant SENTECH Hawai'i is facilitating the process for Kaua'i County.
All meetings are 6:30-8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.
• Tonight at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center.
• Tomorrow night at the Koloa Neighborhood Center.
• May 12 at Hanalei Elementary School.
• May 13 at the Lihu'e War Memorial Convention Hall.
In addition to the meetings, Kaua'i residents are encouraged to complete a survey on the plan's website at www.KauaiEnergySustainabilityPlan.com.
A draft plan will be released for comment in the fall and a final draft in January. Implementing the plan will be coordinated by Kaua'i County and the private sector.
