If you've spent the past few Fourth of July weekends listening to music and partying at BayFest, you're going to have to find new digs this year.

Alex Popov, marketing director at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i, said BayFest has been moved to Aug. 14 to 16 this year in part because of all the other Fourth of July celebrations around O'ahu, and also because this year's BayFest will be a prelude to the state's 50th-anniversary celebrations a week later.

Popov said Tom Moffatt Productions is in charge of bringing in the BayFest acts. One possibility is country star Taylor Swift. Moffatt said he tried to get No Doubt for BayFest, but the dates couldn't be worked out for Gwen Stefani and Co. ...

The back-to-back releases of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" last week and "Star Trek" last night split the TGIF staff down the middle as to which would be the top box office draw. At stake: Lunch. The opening weekend number the Trekkies have to beat is $87 million for Dave and Kawehi to get a freebie from Diane and Nick. Should have run a poll on which one readers feel will prevail. Also, check out the Klingon costume (right) William Sturgeon and his wife made. He said it's his "release." ...

Two big local theater productions are starting this month: Manoa Valley Theatre's "Duck Hunter Shoots Angel" opens Thursday and Diamond Head Theatre's "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" opens May 15. One tidbit we didn't get in during "Gypsy," the previous DHT production was about lead actress Shari Lynn's connection with Peggy Chun, who was honored during MVT's "Tuesdays with Morrie" that ran at the same time. Above Lynn's piano at her home is a painting Chun made for her years ago. Lynn wants to someday make it her next CD cover. ...

Look for more of the top international movies to come to Kahala 8. Top brass from Consolidated Theatres came to town during the Hawaii International Film Festival and said they're going to tap into the Asian and European markets. We love it because the strategy already brought in "Gomorrah," and Kahala 8 was the first to show "Slumdog Millionaire," "The Wrestler" and "Gran Torino." ...

This seems to be prime time for concerts on O'ahu. Over the next few months you've got the Plain White T's, Third Eye Blind, Cheech & Chong, the Pussycat Dolls, Eddie Vedder and No Doubt. And that doesn't even take into account the Wednesday night comedy series at Pipeline Café. If you haven't checked it out, do so soon. Wednesday's headliner is Carlos Alazraqui, formerly of Comedy Central's "Reno 911." Some of the acts Pipeline brings in have to rank near the best in the country. ...

The cool thing about the half-month stay of "Mamma Mia!" at the Blaisdell is that you're going to see a lot of cast members around town. They'll be staying in Waikiki and some brought their families along for this tour stop.

Emptied from TGIF and Metromix staff notebooks.
