Fresh lei needed for Memorial Day observations at veterans cemeteries

The city Department of Parks and Recreation is putting out a call for 50,000 fresh lei for placement on graves at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at state veterans cemeteries on Memorial Day.
All lei must be made of ti leaves or fresh flowers and must measure 20 to 24 inches before tying. All lei must be tied.
Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets also are welcome.
The lei are needed on Friday, May 22, and can be dropped off at the following locations:
— Any Oahu fire station, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
— Parks and Recreation offices at the Fasi Municipal Building or Kapolei Hale, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
— Waianae, Kailua, Waialua, Waiau and Hauula district parks, from 9 a.m. to noon.
— Ala Wai Community Park, Makua Alii Senior Center, and Waipahu and Kaneohe district parks, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Loose plumeria can be dropped off Thursday, May 21, at Waipahu and Kailua district parks and the Makua Alii Senior Center.
As they traditionally have, Boy Scouts will place a lei at each grave.
