Hawaii weather: Sunny, but a bit hazy today

Advertiser Staff

Light and variable winds will prevail through Saturday, bringing a few clouds and light showers that will favor leeward and interior areas during afternoons and evenings, the National Weather Service said.

Shower intensity and coverage will be limited due to a stable air mass, forecasters said.
Otherwise, expect generally clear skies, although volcanic haze from the Kilauea may spread to the smaller islands by tonight. A weak front will reach Kauai Sunday and move to Oahu and Maui counties by Sunday night, where it will stall and gradually dissipate Monday and Tuesday.
Northeast winds will increase as the front passes, but will weaken again early next week.

Here’s a look at what to expect as we head into the weekend:

Today: Widespread haze. Sunny, with a high near 84. North wind at 8 mph becoming south.

Tonight: Widespread haze. Mostly clear, with a low around 68. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north.

Saturday: Widespread haze. Sunny, with a high near 83. North wind 6 to 10 mph becoming south.

Saturday Night: Widespread haze. Mostly clear, with a low around 69. South wind between 7 and 10 mph becoming calm.

Sunday: Scattered showers. Widespread haze before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
