Hawaii Book & Music Festival
This weekend's 4th annual Hawaii Book & Music Festival has more than 175 events planned. It's a family festival that includes keiki book readings, appearances by international and local authors, musical performances, food booths, games and rides.
All of it's free, including the parking at the Honolulu Hale municipal lots and street parking.
Some highlights:
An author pavilion will feature readings of children's books by 30 leading children's authors.
A keiki stage will feature children's plays, storytelling and entertainment.
This year there will be a "Hawaiian CD music swap," where you can bring a new, used or unwanted Hawaiian music CD and exchange it with another CD.
There will be a talent competition on Sunday at 5:45 p.m., with five local musicians/groups - David Kamakahi, Kupaoa, Danny Carvalho, Kamaka Fernandez and Manoa Voice - all vying for a three-month contract to perform at the Kani Ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel. Slack-key artist and Grammy Award winner Cyril Pahinui will perform at 5 p.m., and the Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning foursome Kaukahi closes out the entertainment at 7:15 p.m.
