Moped crash critically injures 16-year-old boy
A teenage boy was critically injured yesterday in a moped accident in Kailua.
Police said an orange moped driven by a 16-year-old Kailua boy was traveling north on North Kalaheo Avenue when it rear-ended a Subaru sedan that had slowed for traffic ahead near the intersection with Uilama Street.
The boy was thrown from the moped onto the southbound lane and was hit by a Honda traveling south on Kalaheo about 11:20 a.m., police said.
The boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
The moped rider was wearing a helmet, police said. Alcohol, drugs or speeding do not appear to be factors, police said.
