A Honolulu molecular biology major is among the 22 students from Pomona College to receive this year's Fulbright Research Grant.
The student, Reed Ayabe, will travel to the University of Kyoto in Japan to conduct research using DNA cloning to determine the primary protein structure of venom from Japanese scorpions. Ayabe and 20 graduates and one alumni from the Pomona College received the award, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The Fulbright offers recent graduates and post-graduates a career-launching chance to study and research abroad. It also is designed to increase cultural understanding between U.S. students and those in foreign countries.
