KEA'AU, Hawai'i — Saint Louis won the boys title in the meet's final event while Punahou ran away with the girls title tonight at the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships.
Saint Louis totaled 44.33 points to edge Punahou, which had 43.83.
The Buffanblu trailed Saint Louis going into the meet's last event — the 4x400 relay — and won in 3:24.34. But the Crusaders clinched the title by barely finishing third in 3:26.51 (Kamehameha was fourth in 3:26.53) thanks to a final lean from anchor Taylor Spencer.
The Punahou girls totaled 71 points to beat defending champion Kamehameha, which had 52.
Three records were broken at the meet — the boys 1,500, 3,000 and long jump.
Bryce Jenkins of Leilehua broke the 3,000 record twice. He set a record in Friday's trials in 8:57.04, then broke that mark last night with 8:52.90.
Trevor Mau of Saint Louis broke the long jump record in Friday's trials with a leap of 23-8. Trials marks for field events are carried over to the finals, and that held up for Mau.
Reid Hunter of King Kekaulike broke the 1,500 record in 4:03.98. He also won the 800.
