The University of Hawai‘i will announce its new men’s volleyball head coach during a news conference Friday morning.
Charlie Wade, head coach of Pacific’s women’s team and a former Rainbow Wahine associate head coach, is believed to be the leading candidate to succeed Mike Wilton.
Last month, Wilton announced he would be retiring from the UH system after 17 seasons as head coach.
Wade, UH associate head coach Tino Reyes, Rainbow Wahine assistant coach Mike Sealy and Pepperdine assistant coach Scott Wong were the finalists from about 25 applicants.
Thursday night, Reyes said he was told UH was going in “another direction.”
Sealy told friends he was no longer considered a finalist.
Wade and Wong could not be reached for comment last night.
