New Paihi Bridge delayed, but shuttle service will continue
Completion of a permanent bridge at Paihi has been delayed by one week due to complications caused by geological conditions, according to the county Department of Public Works.
The road is now expected to reopen June 1. In the meantime, the contractor will continue to provide a shuttle for residents who need to go through the work area. For information on the shuttle service, call Jeff Francis of Global Specialty Contractors at 741-8305.
Paihi Bridge, located in Kipahulu near mile marker 45, was damaged in the October 2006 earthquake. A temporary bridge has been handling road traffic until the design and engineering work for the permanent replacement was completed.
