ADDED FLIGHTS: Alaska Airlines will begin service between Maui's Kahului airport and Oakland, Calif., four times a week beginning Nov. 9. The airline will also begin service between Kona on the Big Island and Oakland three times a week starting Nov. 10, and will expand its Honolulu-Seattle flights from once a day to two starting July 2. AQUA EXTENSION: Aqua Hotels & Resorts has extended its "Obama-rama" package at all 12 Aqua hotels in Waikiki through Dec. 31.

MARRIOTT AWARD: Kaua'i Marriott Resort & Beach Club was awarded the Marriott International Inc. Alice S. Marriott Award for Community Service, part of the company's global "Spirit To Serve Our Communities" initiative. The 356-room resort was honored last week at a Marriott Awards of Excellence ceremony, the company's highest form of recognition.

Kaua'i Marriott Resort is the second-largest private employer on Kaua'i. Together with other Marriott and Ritz Carlton properties on the island, the resort raised more than $35,000 in 2008 to benefit local charities such as Special Olympics and the Kaua'i Habitat for Humanity.

To help young people prepare for careers, hotel managers participate in job shadow days, career fairs and a scholarship program for students training for jobs in the travel industry.
