The Surfrider Foundation’s Oahu Chapter will this month present the seventh annual John Kelly Environmental Awards, recognizing leaders in the effort to to protect and enhance our coastal community and environment. 
The awards event, set for Nov. 14 at the Waimea Valley Pavilion, will be part of the first Hawaii Chapters Conference at Camp Erdman, uniting Surfrider activists from Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. 
A silent auction will get under way at 6:30 p.m., and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment will feature live music from Micah Wolf, Johnny Helm and others.  Tickets are $40 in advance ($50 at the door), and proceeds will benefit Surfrider’s Oahu Chapter.
The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit group dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches through conservation, activism, research and education. Founded in Malibu in 1984 by a group of surfers, the Surfrider Foundation is now in its 25th year and has grown to more than 70 chapters and 90,000 members. 
The Oahu Chapter focuses on issues of beach access, water quality, coastal preservation and plastic marine debris. The chapter’s awards ceremony is named on memory of John Kelly, a well known Hawaii surfer and environmental activist.
