Governor releases $75M for public school projects
Gov. Linda Lingle has released $75 million to pay for a thousand or so construction and renovation projects at public schools throughout Hawaii.
In announcing the funding yesterday, the governor's office said the money was appropriated by the Legislature earlier this year for building and campus facility improvements, repairs and maintenance.
The projects range from reroofing, electrical improvements and restroom renovations to structural repairs, waterline replacements and fire alarm upgrades.
In August, Lingle released $22.2 million to the Department of Education for similar lump-sum capital improvement projects at public school campuses across the Islands.
