Patriot Walk/Run will aid U.S.-VETS-Hawaii
Advertiser Staff
The annual 5k (3.1 miles) Patriot Walk/Run, which raises funds for the state's only program that houses homeless veterans, will be held Nov. 14.
The walk/run will begin at 8 a.m. with pre-race ceremonies at 7:45 a.m. The race will follow along the beach and along the lagoon at the Waterfront at Puuloa (formerly known as Iroquois Point Island Club) and will raise funds for U.S. VETS-Hawai'i.
U.S. VETS, located at Kalaeloa, is already serving soldiers who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. It also provides affordable housing for veterans from the Korean and Vietnam War eras. Participants are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and bring their flags.
Late entries will be accepted until race morning. Prizes will be awarded in overall male and female and age group categories.
For online sign-up, packet pick-up information and updates on the Walk/Run, or to make an online donation, go to: www.usvetsinc.org or www.active.com. BEING ON TIME A MUST FOR ANNUAL TURKEY TROT
The annual Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving Day tradition since 1974 in which the fastest runner rarely wins the top prize, will be held Nov. 26 at Kapiolani Park.
This 10-mile run awards prizes to those who finish closest to their predicted finishing time.
Registration starts at the Kapiolani bandstand at 6:30 a.m. Each runner is given a tongue depressor blade on which they write their name and their predicted finish time to the second. At the finish line, the blades are collected and times listed.
The entry fee is $3; no watches, headphones, or pacing devices are allowed. For more information, go to www.honolulumarathonclinic.org.
