Team Hawai'i won the women's division at the Hawaiki Nui Va'a canoe race on Wednesday.

Team Hawai'i completed the 25-mile course in a record time of 2 hours, 15 minutes, 10 seconds. Team Bora Bora placed second in 2:17:31.

Members of the Team Hawai'i crew were Noelani Auger, Lauren Bartlett, Kristin Foster, Andrea Moller, Lori Nakamura and Dane Ward.

It is the first time since 2000 that a Hawai'i crew was able to win the women's race. Kai Makana from Hawai'i won in 2000, and Waimänalo won in 1998.

The women's division of the Hawaiki Nui Va'a features just one race.

The men's division features three long-distance races in three consecutive days.

Through the first two races, Team Hawai'i is in 12th place in the overall men's standings.

The Team Hawai'i men placed sixth in the 27.5-mile opening race on Wednesday. Yesterday, Team Hawai'i placed 18th in the 16.2-mile second race.

The third race, which covers 36 miles, will run today.

Shell Va'a from Tahiti is in first place overall, and holds a three-minute lead over the rest of the field.

The Hawaiki Nui Va'a is considered the top sporting event in Tahiti.

HPU WOMEN BEAT HILO IN DOUBLE OT

Sanoe Souza scored two goals, including the clincher in the 103rd minute, as host Hawai'i Pacific rallied past Hawai'i-Hilo, 2-1, in double overtime yesterday in a Pacific West Conference women's soccer match at Atherton Field.

Jamie Hirai assisted on both goals for the Sea Warriors (10-7-1, 8-5). On the winning goal, Hirai sent a cross to Souza, who scored on a header.

Nathalie Palacios scored in the 29th minute to put the Vulcans (3-11-4, 2-7-3) ahead 1-0.

Elsewhere in the PacWest yesterday:

• Isaiah Guth and Ikaika Fuerte scored goals as host Hawai'i Pacific rallied to beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 2-1, in a men's match at Atherton Field. Fuerte, a freshman from Kapa'a, scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Sven Blauth in the 70th minute to put the Sea Warriors (12-2-2, 9-2-2) ahead 2-1. Eduardo Gutierrez scored in the 28th minute to give the Vulcans (9-10, 8-5) a 1-0 lead.

• Sam Akinaka, Jared Trussell and Adam Maciejewski scored and Brigham Young-Hawai'i also had an own goal to beat host Chaminade, 4-1, in a men's match at Saint Louis field. Cory Cosgrave made five saves for the Seasiders (8-8-1, 7-5-1). Keenan Ho scored for the Silverswords (3-13, 2-11).

• Natalie Cude scored two goals, and Emily Mearns and Carissa Henley each added one as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat host Chaminade, 4-0, in a women's match at Saint Louis field. The Seasiders (14-3, 11-2) outshot the Silverswords (0-16, 0-13) 36-0, with 18 shots on goal. Marissa Minor made 14 saves for Chaminade.
