Heavy sea swells postpone Maui barge arrivals
Young Brothers said today that barge arrivals to Kahului Harbor on Maui have been disrupted by continuous large swells that made it unsafe to attempt to enter the port. The next port arrival has been postponed until tomorrow.
The barge Hoomaka Hou attempted to enter Kahului harbor twice today but dangerous swells caused both attempts to be halted. The barge will remain off port through the night and attempt to make it into port on Friday. All customers with perishable cargo and full container loads will be called when the cargo is available on Friday. All other cargo will be available on Monday.
"We apologize for the delays and thank people for their understanding about the rough conditions," said Matt Humphrey, Young Brothers vice president and general manager. "We are always conscious of the crew's safety.”
Young Brothers has also rescheduled today's sailing of the barge Haaheo scheduled to leave Honolulu for Kahului. It will depart Honolulu on Friday and is expected to arrive on Saturday. There will be a Saturday pickup from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. of all perishable goods and full container loads. All other cargo will be available on Monday.
Customers who are affected have been contacted. Additional updates will be posted at www.youngbrothershawaii.com or you can call the Maui Port at 808-877-6511.
