The 10th annual Island Design Center Women's Night Doubles has doubled its field, with 16 teams playing Wednesday to Saturday at Kailua Racquet Club. The bigger field brings even more international flavor.

The 32 tennis players come from Hawai'i, California, Washington, Utah, Texas, Japan, China, South Korea and all over Europe. Most play for the University of Hawai'i, Brigham Young-Hawai'i, Hawai'i Pacific and Chaminade, but Hawai'i's Mimi Kennel, Rhie Yukihiro, Audra Takara and Leilani Magee are also in the draw.

Last year Melinda Wong, then a UH senior, won the title with teammate Anja-Vanessa Peter. This year Wong, who is from Seattle, will play with UH assistant coach Bridgette Strickland, from Utah.

Other teams include HPU's Anastasia Agaychick and Lauren Shin, Slovakians Barbara Pinterova and Katarina Poljakova, from UH, 2007 champion Elwin Li with BYUH teammate Jia Yuan, and Chaminade's Yuka Kondo and Tiffany DeVincent.

The tournament has a $2,500 purse for the pros. Play begins at 6 each night, with semifinals Friday. Saturday's championship is scheduled for 7:15, following a 6 o'clock third-place match.

There is no admission charge. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Last year's tournament presented a check for $5,800 to Castle Medical Women's Services for the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. This year's charity is the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
