AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Want to get away, Boss?
Bruce Springsteen bellowed "Hello, Ohio!" to his fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills. That's in Michigan.
The 60-year-old rock legend referred to the neighboring state several times Friday night until E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt whispered in his ear.
Springsteen grinned and said such a mistake was "every frontman's nightmare."
The Detroit Free Press says Springsteen rocked the forgiving audience for nearly three hours with new and old hits, including a complete performance of his album "Born to Run."
HOUSE RAIDED IN CRAWFORD BLACKMAIL CASE
BERLIN — German police said yesterday they had searched a home in connection with an alleged extortion scheme targeting former supermodel Cindy Crawford and her family.
U.S. authorities had said Thursday that a German man had been charged in the U.S. with trying to extort $100,000 from Crawford and her entrepreneur husband, Rande Gerber, over a photo of their daughter, then 7, bound to a chair and gagged. He was accused of threatening to sell or release the photo to the media.
The daughter told her parents, who were unaware of the photo, that her former nanny took the picture as part of a "cops and robbers" game.
DOBBS DENIES CNN PUSHED HIM OUT
NEW YORK — Lou Dobbs says he doesn't feel like he was pushed out of CNN, the news organization where he worked for all but two years of its existence until last Wednesday.
"Not at all," he said. "I don't know if people will believe it, but we had a very amicable parting on the best of terms. I spent 29 years there building that company, and I wish everyone there nothing but the best, and they have reciprocated with me."
He announced his resignation on "Lou Dobbs Tonight," finished the newscast and walked out of CNN.
Dobbs said he plans to take time deciding what he wants to do, beyond his daily radio show. He promised to reach out to groups who criticized him, most prominently because he advocated stern measures to halt illegal immigration.
DOOM, BUT NO GLOOM AT BOX OFFICE
LOS ANGELES — Doom spelled dollars at the box office as the global-disaster tale "2012" opened at No. 1 domestically with $65 million and pulled in $225 million worldwide, according to studio estimates yesterday.
The action saga, with a cast led by John Cusack, Danny Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor, tells the story of a scramble to save remnants of humanity aboard giant arks as the earth's crust shifts and flood waters pour over most of the planet.
"A Christmas Carol" slipped to No. 2 with $22.3 million, down 26 percent from its No. 1 opening gross a weekend earlier. The Jim Carrey holiday adventure raised its 10-day total to $63.3 million.
