A 68-year-old man who has a history of sexual assault convictions was arrested yesterday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl.

Tutau Nuusila, who gave police no address, was arrested for investigation of one count of first-degree sexual assault. He remained in police custody last night pending charges.

Nuusila was arrested after police said a Kalihi girl reported that she was sexually assaulted on numerous occasions as she slept. Police said the incidents occurred from Nov. 10 to Nov. 12.

Police arrested Nuusila at 2:15 p.m. yesterday at a Monsarrat Avenue address.

Nuusila is on the state's sex offender registry. He had sex assault convictions in 1986 and 1989, according to the registry.

He lists a Bannister Street address in Kalihi as his last residence.
