Haua'ala bridge on Kaua'i is closed until further notice. Officials said recent flooding severely undermined the crossing in Keapana, making it unsafe for passage.

A decision will be made in the coming weeks on how to proceed with repairs.

Concrete barriers have been placed at the crossing.

Drivers and pedestrians are being told to use an alternative route.

WATER MAIN BREAK REPORTED IN HÄLAWA

Some 21 homes in Hälawa Heights went without water much of yesterday after a pipe broke.

The water main break was reported at 3:37 a.m. on Hälawa Heights Road between Ali'ipoe Drive and 'Iwa'iwa Street. The road was closed while crews replaced more than 8 feet of pipe.

Water was restored about 3 p.m. yesterday.
