After a quick stumble out of the starting gates, the Kahuku girls volleyball team broke into its stride and never looked back, racing all the way to a share of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference Eastern Division title.
The Red Raiders, who finished 11-1 and tied for first with Moanalua after losing to Nä Menehune in the season opener, swept top postseason honors as 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker Amanda Tonga was named Player of the Year and Uila Fotu Vendiola was named Coach of the Year.
Tonga is joined on the first team by teammate Elizabeth Blake, a 5-8 junior outside hitter, and three players each from Moanalua and Farrington.
Nä Menehune placed 5-7 senior outside hitter Carsen Mata, 5-10 senior outside hitter Gabby Matautia and 5-3 sophomore libero Katiana Ponce.
Farrington is represented by outside hitters Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo (5-10, Jr.) and Fenumiai Tofilau (5-8, Sr.) and 5-4 senior setter Brandy Vergado-Duclayan.
