Teen sentenced to 20 years in prison for 2008 Nimitz Highway shooting
Teenager Shaw M. Awber was sentenced to 20 years in prison this morning for attempted murder and other crimes.
The sentence, handed down by Circuit Judge Karen Ahn, followed the terms of a plea agreement made earlier by Awber with prosecutors.
Awber, 19, admitted firing multiple gunshots at a pickup truck containing 11 young people June 29, 2008, on Nimitz Highway near the airport.
Awber, who also admitted being in a youth gang called the Outlaws, was 17 at the time of the shooting but Family Court waived jurisdiction in the case, allowing him to be tried as an adult.
Awber also pleaded guilty to multiple assault charges and other offenses.
