Festival boasts qi gong feats, cooking, acrobatics, tea ceremonies

Qi gong expert Tu Jin-Sheng will be bending steel bars, pushing a car (using a spear at his throat) and painting intricate Chinese art while standing on raw eggs this weekend. Why? Because it’s time for the annual Splendor of China Festival, and also because he can.
The cultural festival and trade show will also feature Chinese acrobatic dancing, a “30 Years of China-U.S. Relations” photo exhibit, a sneak preview of World Expo 2010 to be held in Shanghai, a cooking demonstration by “Popo’s Kitchen” author June Tong and samples of co-sponsor Panda Express’ new SweetFire Chicken.
And there’s more, such as hands-on activities and demonstrations for kids and adults, Chinese paper cutting, calligraphy, chop carving, tea ceremonies, lion dancing, kung fu classes and cooking lessons. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a cultural festival without booths selling everything from antiques to fresh Chinese food.
The festival will be held in the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. Admission is $6, but children 8 and under get in free. Visit www.splendorofchina.com for an entertainment schedule and other information or call 533-3181.
