A six-acre brush fire in Olinda, Maui on Friday was caused by a fallen power line, Maui officials said yesterday.

The 12:27 p.m. Friday fire was caused when a large tree limb fell onto a power line, which snapped and ignited the grass along the access road, county spokeswoman Mahina Martin said.

Strong, swirling winds pushed the fire through the forested area, fueled by a thick layer of pine needles and dead plant material covering the forest floor across from the Olinda Bird Sanctuary, Martin said.

No homes were in danger and no injuries reported. The fire was put out by 7:30 p.m. Friday.
