1 dead, 1 badly injured in Maui fire

One person was killed and another suffered severe burns in a fire that destroyed a Ulupalakua house early this morning, Maui County officials said
Fire crews from Kula, Makawao and Kahului responded to the fire on Kini Drive in Ulupalakua.
The fire was reported at 1:13 a.m. and was under control by 2:17 a.m. Fire officials said the house had 3 occupants.
One was uninjured. A man who was badly burned was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center and then taken to a burn unit at Straub Hospital on Oahu.
During the clean-up and dousing of remaining hot spots, the body of a woman was discovered. She is believed to be a visitor from Washington state. Her identity has not been released.
Maui Fire Department and Police Arson investigators estimate damages at $140,000. There were no signs of foul play.
