Earth-friendly fun with 'Fantastic Plastic' at HiSAM
| |||
Find your inner green artist at "Fantastic Plastic," a Second Saturday event set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Hawai'i State Art Museum, 250 South Hotel St.
Participants will transform everyday plastic items into fun-and-functional art objects. Assisting with the eco-creativity will be Hawai'i Stitchery and Fiber Arts Guild members demonstrating how to make jack-o'-lanterns from pop bottles, parachutes, charms and squeaky creatures. Participants are asked to bring a clean, empty 2-liter soda bottle or juice bottle to make the jack-o'-lantern.
Also, artist Dalani Tanahy will give demonstrations on the basics of kapa-making and provide a brief introductory overview on everything from peeling to beating to dying. Participants will make their own kapa stamps and print kapa bookmarks.
