Honolulu hotel room rates declined 16 percent in the past year, making it the 8th-highest discounted destination of among North American cities surveyed by the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report.

Hotwire reported sun destinations dominated its October report, with Houston taking the top spot at 30 percent lower rates compared to a year ago. It was followed by three Florida cities - Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami, with Phoenix rounding out the top five.
"With the fall season comes naturally slowing leisure travel," said Clem Bason, Hotwire Group president, in a press statement.
"And with business travel unable to fill that gap this year, we're seeing amazing deals at some of the most popular destinations around the country."
