Foodland, its customers & Western Union donate $1.7M to charity
Foodland Super Market yesterday presented a roughly $1.7 million check on behalf of customers, the company and Western Union to nonprofit organizations in this year's Give Aloha campaign.
The local supermarket chain said that despite economically challenging times, more money was raised this year than in any year since the program began in 1999.
Customers donated more than $1.3 million at Foodland and Sack N Save stores throughout September. Foodland and the Western Union Foundation contributed an additional $325,000.
More than 600 Hawaii nonprofit organizations will benefit, Foodland said. Since the program began, $14 million has been raised for Hawaiçi charities.
