Kua to defend his Turtle Bay Amateur title

 • Kapalua left in void

Manoa Cup champion TJ Kua will defend his title at the seventh annual Turtle Bay Amateur, Saturday and Sunday at the resort's Fazio and Palmer Courses.

More than 224 players have signed up, including Punahou senior Bradley Shigezawa, who won at Turtle Bay in 2007 and lost to Kua by two shots last year. Army Invitational champ Ryan Perez is also in the field, along with 'Iolani sophomore Lorens Chan, who tied for fourth last year.

Golfers tee off at 7:30 a.m. each day. This is the final event for amateurs to earn points for Governor's Cup.

WIN STREAK ON LINE

One of Hawai'i golf's most dominant streaks will be put on the line next week at the Nike Golf/Golf Concepts Aloha Section PGA 4-Ball Match Play Championship.

Hawai'i Golf Hall of Famer Larry Stubblefield, an Oahu Country Club member, and OCC head pro Andrew Feldmann will go after their eighth straight title beginning Monday — at OCC.

There are 21 teams in the field, including Ron and Ronnie Castillo, Philip Chun and Lance Suzuki, John Hearn and Kevin Ralbovsky, Ed Kageyama and Stephen Burke, Regan Lee and Beau Yokomoto, Leland Lindsay and Joe Phengsavath, Jerry Mullen and Damien Jamila, Matt Pakkala and Kevin Carll, and Lance Taketa and Kevin Hayashi.

Stubblefield and Feldmann outlasted Mullen and Jamila, 1-up, in last year's final. They beat Hayashi and Taketa by the same score in 2007.

The Pro-Am and qualifying for Bracket of 16 tees off at 1 p.m. Monday, with the defending champions automatically seeded first. First- and second-round matches are at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday. Semifinals start at 7 a.m. Wednesday, with the final to follow at 1 p.m.
