Hawaii County police have charged an Arizona man in connection with an attempted robbery Wednesday along Alii Drive in Kailua, Kona.

Emil Delao of Tucson was charged Saturday with attempted robbery, kidnapping and terroristic threatening.

An 18-year-old woman told police that she was walking by the rock wall of Hale O Käne Park at 8:45 p.m. when a man began speaking to her, followed her and told her he was going to rob her.

As the woman tried to run away, the man knocked her down and she screamed. The screams attracted passers-by and the suspect fled.

The woman was not injured.

Police arrested Delao the next day at the Kona airport, where he was waiting to catch a scheduled flight to the Mainland.
