Jack Johnson, a 1993 graduate of Kahuku High School, said today he’ll perform “a few songs” at the Stop Furlough Fridays rally tomorrow at the state Capitol.

The rally starts at 10 a.m. and runs to 1 p.m. Johnson didn’t say when he would be performing.
“My wife and I planned on going anyway in support of stopping the furloughs,” Johnson said. “They wanted me to speak, but I’m not really comfortable public speaking so I offered to sing a few songs instead.”
Johnson, a North Shore resident, has three children.
“I don’t to want to see our public school system downgraded and I think it’s important to support education,” he said. “(Furloughs) are a complex situation, but all I’m asking is they take another look at other options. Furlough Fridays seem like a short-term solution when you’re looking at the future.”
Johnson talked about the furloughs and the importance of education during an interview this morning regarding the Nov. 13-14 screenings of his “En Concert” documentary and CD, both of which are being released Tuesday.
The DVD follows Johnson during his tour of Europe and gives insight to the singer/songwriter/surfer both on and off stage.
As for Furloughs Fridays, Johnson reiterated that he hopes another solution can be found.
“What keeps popping into my mind is that this is like doing a half-assed job of fixing a leaky boat,” he said. “It feels like it could eventually bring the whole ship down.”
