A man was seriously injured in a hang gliding accident this afternoon above Makapuu.
The man, who appears to be in 50s, was preparing to launch his hang glider from the lookout above Makapuu at about 3:15 when the hang glider was caught by a gust of wind, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department. The glider was pulled across some rocks, injuring the man, Cheplic said.
A Honolulu Fire Department rescue team got to the man and airlifted him to the Makapuu Lookout parking lot where paramedics were waiting. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, Cheplic said.
