Motorcyclist hospitalized after crashing into car
A 21-year-old Kíhei man was critically injured Wednesday night when the motorcycle he was operating rear-ended a sedan on Mokulele Highway, Maui police said yesterday.
The collision took place shortly after 10:30 p.m., about a mile south of Hansen Road in Kahului.
Police said both vehicles were traveling south when the motorcycle hit the car and slid on the road.
The sedan, driven by a 62-year-old Kíhei woman, went onto the grass median and overturned.
Both people were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The woman was held for observation Wednesday night.
Police said the man was wearing a helmet. They said speeding may have been a factor in the crash.
