Kai Sallas of Honolulu won the Oxbow ASP World Longboard Tour Maldives contest today.

The final day of the contest was run in 2- to 3-foot waves at Pasta Point, Chaaya Island, Maldives.

Sallas won three heats today, including a victory over newly-crowned world champion Harley Ingleby of Australia in the final.

"I'm so stoked to win this event, the waves have been super fun all week and to beat Harley in the final capped off a perfect week for me," Sallas said.

Sallas received a score of 7.75 (out of 10) early in the final heat and never relinquished the lead. His two best waves scored a total of 15.65 points to top Ingleby's total of 14.0.

Sallas received $10,000 for the win.

The contest was the final stop on the 2009 ASP World Longboard Tour. Ingleby clinched the 2009 world title after he won his quarterfinal heat.

Sallas finished the year ranked No. 2 to lead four Hawai'i surfers in the top 10. Hale'iwa's Bonga Perkins, the 2008 world champion, finished No. 5. Ned Snow of the Big Island is No. 6, and Duane DeSoto of 'Ewa is No. 8.

Sallas defeated Snow in the semifinals of today's contest.
