Kapolei girls, HBA boys lead state bowling

Raelena Mattos and Christalynn Bonifacio helped Kapolei take the girls lead after the first six rounds of the HHSAA State Bowling Tournament yesterday at Schofield Bowling Center.
Mattos is the individual leader with a six-game total of 1,083 pins, and Bonifacio is second with 1,072.
Kapolei (4,905 total pins) leads defending champion Kalani (4,796) by 109 pins, with Hilo third (4,545).
Jaron Goto of Hawaii Baptist knocked down 1,159 pins to take the lead over Maryknoll's Keenan Kurihara (1,136) and defending champion Corey Gushikuma (1,124) of Baldwin in the boys division.
HBA leads the team competition with 5,139 total pins. Mililani (5,018) is second and Pearl City third (4,974).
The final three rounds will be played today, starting at 8 a.m. The top 15 individuals in each division will earn medals.
