University of Hawaii defensive end Fetaiagogo �John� Fonoti, the only returning starter on defense, suffered an apparent injury to his left knee during today�s practice and was carted off the field.

Fonoti said an initial medical examination showed a hyperextension.
He said he suffered the injury when an offensive lineman fell on him during 11-on-11 drills.
Fonoti is scheduled to undergo an MRI today.
UH and Cincinnati enter the season with the fewest returning starters on defense among NCAA I-A teams.
Liko Satele is the immediate backup at defensive right end.
The Warriors open their season Friday against Central Arkansas at Aloha Stadium.
