A Circuit Court jury this afternoon found Maryann Acker guilty of murdering Lawrence Hasker in 1978.

Acker, who now goes by the name Maryann Bray, was first found guilty of the murder charge here in 1982 but was retried after Circuit Judge Michael Town set aside the first verdict.
The re-trial lasted more than three weeks and the jury deliberated about two days before returning the guilty verdict.
Deputy Prosecutor Landon Murata said he was pleased “the jury was able to see through Maryann Acker’s lies.”
“She was lying a lot, over and over again,” Murata said of the defendant.
Town set sentencing for November 2.
Murata said his office has not yet decided on on what sentence it will ask for.
Acker and her now ex-husband, William Acker, were found guilty of a second murder in California that was committed less than two weeks after Hasker was shot to death here.
Both are serving life sentences in California and both were returned here for the re-trial of the Hasker case.
Each testified that the other fatally shot Hasker, 20, after they robbed him.
