DLNR schedules meetings on fishing regulation plans

Advertiser Staff

The state plans to hold meetings on O'ahu and Lana'i over the next six weeks to discuss possible regulations for fishing parrotfish (uhu), goatfish (weke) and jacks (ulua).

These fish help maintain healthy coral reefs, so overfishing is a concern for the state.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources has held similar meetings on Kaua'i, Maui and the Big Island.

The meeting schedule is as follows:

• Sept. 10, 11 a.m., DLNR Board Room 132, Kalanimoku state office building, 1151 Punchbowl St.

• Sept. 10, 5 p.m., Lana'i Public Library.

• Sept. 15, 6 p.m., Kawananakoa Middle School.

• Sept. 24, 2 p.m., DLNR Board Room 132.

• Oct. 8, 6 p.m., DLNR Board Room 132.

• Oct. 13, 6 p.m., Benjamin Parker Elementary School.
