The Honolulu Symphony said today that the Honolulu Symphony Foundation has advanced the symphony $1.8 million to pay back wages for musicians and other expenses.

Symphony officials said the money essentially covers all the symphony's debts and that the symphony now can make a fresh start.
They said sweeping organizational changes — such as switching from a yearly budget to weekly budgets — will be made and major funding will be secured.
