Honolulu Symphony gets $1.8 million advance for back wages
The Honolulu Symphony said today that the Honolulu Symphony Foundation has advanced the symphony $1.8 million to pay back wages for musicians and other expenses.
Symphony officials said the money essentially covers all the symphony's debts and that the symphony now can make a fresh start.
They said sweeping organizational changes — such as switching from a yearly budget to weekly budgets — will be made and major funding will be secured.
The announcement was made at a news conference at the Halekulani Hotel this morning.
Members of the Honolulu Symphony Board of Directors, the Honolulu Symphony Foundation and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra spoke about the 2009-10 season.
