Kawainui Marsh tour gives history of heiau, fishpond
A monthly field lecture series will take participants back to a time when Kawainui Marsh and Ka'elepulu Pond were ocean bays and the first Polynesians came to the shores of Kawainui Lagoon and built heiau, a fishpond and taro terraces.
Ahahui Malama I Ka Lokahi and the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club begin their Fall Kawainui Marsh Educational Series at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Ulupo Heiau.
Chuck "Doc" Burrows, a Hawaiian naturalist, will lead the tour and explain how the sites were used.
