Oahu schools will benefit from NIKE 5K For Kids Run

Nike will join O'ahu's schools in supporting keiki health and fitness with the 10th anniversary of the NIKE 5K For Kids Run, to be held in Waikiki on Sept. 20.
Registration deadline is Tuesday and costs $20. Runners may register at www.nike5kforkids.com and O'ahu Sports Authority Stores. The race is limited to the first 10,000 entrants.
All of the entry fees will be donated to an O'ahu school physical education, play and athletic program of each entrant's choice.
Last year's top 10 beneficiary schools were Ma'ema'e Elementary ($8,997), Maryknoll Grade School ($7,637), St. Andrew's Priory ($5,334), Kapolei High School ($5,105), Kaimuki Middle ($4,618), Mid-Pacific ($3,223), Wilson Elementary ($3,039), Hongwanji Mission ($3,005), Education Laboratory ($2,070) and Kahala Elementary ($2,070).
CASTLE ALUM RAMOS DEADLIFTS 804 POUNDS
Andy Ramos, 34, set a world record deadlift of 804 pounds in his division at last Saturday's World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters powerlifting meet at Kamiloiki Elementary School.
The 6-foot-3, 360-pound Castle alum broke the record of 722 in the Law Enforcement/Submasters superheavyweight division. Ramos is expected to compete at the WABDL World Championships in Reno, Nev., Oct. 27 to Nov. 1. Ramos is a corrections officer at OCCC.

• A six-week Performance Basketball Clinic will start Sept. 13 and run six consecutive Sundays at St. Andrew's Priory gym.
The first session, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., is a youth "skill builder" clinic for boys and girls ages 7-11. The second session from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and the third from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. are for boys and girls ages 12-15 who are going to be trying out for a school team this coming fall.

• Three Canadian high school junior volleyball teams (ages 16-17) will compete in a three-day volleyball tournament at Holy Trinity gym on Oct. 14-17.
