Hawaii issues warning on Kellogg’s Eggo products
The Hawai‘i State Department of Health is warning consumers not to eat Kellogg’s Eggo Cinnamon Toast Waffles and Kellogg’s Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially serious disease.
The DOH has received no reports of illness associated with these products. However out of caution Kellogg is voluntarily recalling the following products:
UPC code 3800040440 with “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with:
NOV22 10 EA, NOV23 10 EA and NOV 24 10 EA
UPC code 3800023370 with “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with
NOV15 10 EA
Consumers are urged to check their freezers to ensure they don’t have these products. If they do, they should either return the product or throw it away.
Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis. A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth, premature delivery, or infection of the newborn.
