New business enterprise center will open Wednesday
The Pacific Gateway Center will celebrate its 35th anniversary Wednesday with the opening of a new enterprise center in Downtown Honolulu.
The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Paradise Enterprise Center, at 83 N. King St., is designed to help low-income immigrants and refugees start up their own businesses.
The anniversary celebration will kick off at 9 a.m., with a Hawaiian blessing.
Nine monks from Laos, Thailand and Burma will chant in recognition of the work the center has done.
Beverages will be served following the ceremony.
The Pacific Gateway Center opened in 1973, as the Kalihi-Palama Immigrant Service Center. It has helped more than 50,000 clients over the years.
